PhD Candidate Nguyen Xuan Hieu Successfully Defends His Doctoral Dissertation at the Hue University Level

       On March 11, 2026, the Institute of Biotechnology, Hue University, held the institutional-level doctoral dissertation defense for PhD candidate Nguyen Xuan Hieu, a member of the 2021 cohort in Biology (Code: 9420101). His dissertation, entitled “Biological Control of Aspergillus sp. Causing Black Mold Stem Rot in Peanut (Arachis hypogaea) in Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue Provinces,” was conducted under the academic supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy from the University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University. The defense was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vo Viet Minh Nhat, Deputy Head of the Department of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs, Hue University; the Institute’s leadership; faculty members; and doctoral candidates currently studying at the Institute. The Institutional Doctoral Dissertation Evaluation Committee consisted of seven members, established under Decision No. 102/QĐ-ĐHH dated January 23, 2026, issued by the President of Hue University. The event was also attended by the candidate’s colleagues, friends, family members, and others interested in the dissertation.

       PhD candidate Nguyen Xuan Hieu presented the rationale for conducting the research, its scientific and practical significance, the research methodology, and the key findings of the dissertation before the Evaluation Committee. The research outcomes have been published in journals indexed in SCIE/Scopus and the Hue University Journal of Science.

       According to the Evaluation Committee, the dissertation demonstrates significant theoretical and practical value and reflects the dedication and efforts of PhD candidate Nguyen Xuan Hieu throughout his doctoral study and research. Following the discussion, the Institutional Doctoral Dissertation Evaluation Committee convened a closed meeting and conducted a vote. The dissertation was unanimously approved with 7 out of 7 votes in favor. On behalf of the Committee, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Thi Ngoc Lan from the University of Sciences, Hue University, Chair of the Committee, congratulated PhD candidate Nguyen Xuan Hieu on the successful defense of his institutional-level doctoral dissertation. She also recommended that the candidate fully incorporate the comments, suggestions, and recommendations provided by the Committee members to further revise, supplement, and finalize the dissertation.
