On June 17th 2020, at Quang Nam Department of Science and Technology, Assoc. Prof. Truong Thi Hong Hai, Director of Institute of Biotechnology, Hue University (HUIB), the coordinator of the project presented results of the provincial research project “Application of high technology for breeding of Ngoc Linh ginseng (Panax vietnamensis Ha et Grushv) at Nam Tra My District, Quang Nam Province by sexual reproduction”; Center for Ngoc Linh ginseng, Nam Tra My District was the implementation organization.
The aims of the project was focussing on application of high technology for breeding of Ngoc Linh ginseng by sexual reproduction to improve the rate and quality of seedlings for meeting the needs of production development, and contributing to conservation and development planning for Panax vietnamensis Ha et Grushv at Nam Tra My District, Quang Nam Province. The research project was studied by highly qualified scientists from Hue University and experienced staff from Center for Ngoc Linh ginseng, Nam Tra My District in 3 years and 6 months. The research team completed planned research contents as well as the purposes of the project.
At the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Truong Thi Hong Hai presented of the process, the contents of research and achieved results from the project, such as: Ngoc Linh ginseng has 1 stem and 5-years-old showing good characteristics of variety; Ngoc Linh ginseng is collected at various locations in Quang Nam Province has highly purity; Panax vietnamensis Ha et Grushv has a great genetic diversity; germination rate of Ngoc Linh ginseng seeds are affected by parent plant age, germination rate of seed from 4 year old parent plant was 66.33%, 82.22% for 6 year old parent plant, and the germination rate of seed from 8 year old parent plant reached 88.89%; treatment of Ngoc Linh ginseng seed in hot water at 45oC for 4 or 8 hours, or 55oC for 8 hours will increase the germination rate of seed; moist sandy soil is the best condition for the germination rate of Ngoc Linh ginseng seed with 92.22%; seedlings are planted in media containing 50% natural humus and 50% decaying compost from forest leaves show good growth and development; the seed germination rate and seedling survival rate will be increased if seeds are treated by Nano Chitosan and Trichoderma + Bacillus before sowing.
