The Prime Minister approved the Development Project of the Institute of Biotechnology, Hue University

Developing the Institute of Biotechnology, Hue University into a national biotechnology center in the Central region with modern and synchronous facilities, human resources capable of acquiring, mastering, and advancing towards innovation. create basic technologies of biotechnology, capable of solving basic research tasks and transferring technology to meet social needs. That is the main goal of the Development Project of the Institute of Biotechnology, Hue University, which has just been approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 523/QD-TTg dated May 14, 2018.
According to the scheme, the goal by 2020 is to invest in the development of new infrastructure, incubation and trial production areas (greenhouses, net houses and production of vaccines and biological products); complete and organize the operation of 4 laboratories: gene technology; enzyme and protein technology; microbiology and fermentation technology; stem cells. By 2025, invest in upgrading facilities and laboratories to develop the Institute of Biotechnology into one of the three national biotechnology centers reaching a level equivalent to the ASEAN region; organize activities of 5 laboratories: Immunology and vaccine; Bioinformatics; biological active substances and biochemical technology; preparation technology; marine biology; building incubation, testing and production zones. Developing and applying background technologies to create valuable scientific products that contribute to socio-economic development in the Central – Central Highlands region. and the whole country; technology transfer in the fields of agriculture, forestry and fishery, health care and environmental protection in coastal and mountainous areas.

The scheme will develop mechanisms and policies to support the research of background technologies and genetic modification technologies for application in line with the country’s socio-economic development; effectively implement preferential mechanisms for research, development and application of high technology in accordance with the provisions of law.

Simultaneously, promoting cooperation and association with institutes, research centers, and laboratories of biotechnology in the central region, contributing to support, capacity building and efficiency in research and application. and develop biotechnology to serve the socio-economic development of the central region.

Besides strengthening the potential of facilities, initial investment in infrastructure development of the Institute of Biotechnology, Hue University. In the period of 2018 – 2020, to focus on in-depth investment, improve scientific research capacity, develop technology in association with other laboratories of member universities in the fields of agriculture, forestry and fishery, health and environment; complete and organize the operation of 4 laboratories: gene technology; enzyme and protein technology; microbiology and fermentation technology; stem cells.

In the period of 2021 – 2025, invest in 5 new laboratories: Immunology and vaccine; Bioinformatics; biological active substances and biochemical technology; pharmaceutical preparation; marine biology; build and complete incubation, testing and production zones (greenhouses, net houses and production of vaccines and biological products).

Prioritize basic and applied research orientations, basic research in life science, source technology; researching and applying source technology, gene and cell technology, protein/enzyme, microbiology, biochemistry… in medicine and pharmacy, marine biology, agriculture, fisheries, processing industry and environment; analysis, testing and assessment of biosafety, products and goods for genetically modified organisms, genetic specimens and products of genetically modified organisms.

To develop the application of biotechnology, exploit and develop rare and precious genetic resources of animals and plants in the Central region for the development of Vietnam’s agriculture, forestry, fishery and medicinal plants; building and transferring industrial biotechnology models in the Central region, especially in seafood and agricultural product processing; develop biotechnology in association with new material technology and information technology to aim at automating hi-tech production models applied to agriculture, processing industry and environmental protection.

To build a center for science and technology services and to transfer biotechnology as the core for the central region; organization of incubation and transfer services.
